How does trauma affect our body?
It’s no secret that our bodies and minds are deeply connected. When we experience injuries, emotional hurt, or trauma, strong emotions are a natural response. But if we don’t address these feelings, they can become trapped inside us. If you do not release that emotion from that injury, hurt, or traumatic event, the brain will bury (suppress) the hurtful emotion. Our cells, muscles, tendons, and body systems begin to store theses surpress emotions, which create a weakened state of functioning in the areas the emotion is stored.
Imagine these emotions like heavy burdens we carry. Over time, this emotional weight can affect our entire being, making us more susceptible to illness and hindering our ability to heal, both physically and emotionally. The good news is, healing is still possible. By acknowledging and releasing these difficult emotions, we can create space for well-being. It’s like opening a door that allows us to move forward from the hurt and experience true wholeness.
Unhealed emotional wounds can linger in our souls, like impurities clinging to an air purifier’s filter. These unresolved emotions can keep our past traumas locked in, hindering both physical and emotional healing. Just like a clogged filter affects the air quality, these unresolved issues can impact our quality of life through our physical health, as well as impact others through the quality of reactions or responses we give others. The key to true healing lies in acknowledging these hidden emotions with the help of the Holy Spirit. By allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us, we can gently identify the “impurities” on our filter (the soul) holding us back from true healing.
There are 3 parts to your soul; mind, will, and emotions. These are what encompass your personality…how God created you. In Romans 12:2, Paul says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of you mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Why do we renew our minds?
We do not only renew minds for pure thoughts, but to know His will because it promises complete fulfillment and effectiveness…to know our lives are not a waste. Acts 13 it talks about David being on the earth for a certain amount of time to live out his calling for his generation. Just as David did, you have something within you that you are to live out within your generation and time. Until that becomes clear, we will not be fulfilled. The devil often uses our conditions and circumstances to derail that. When we start to live out who we are supposed to be fulfillment happens and we begin to become very effective.
Does our value change with this fulfillment?
NO! However, our effectiveness does. For example, When you find two 2 pennies on the floor….one is old and one is new….what value do they have? They have the same value! Our value before the Lord never changes although our effectiveness does. Our effectiveness does change and the ability to grow in our effectiveness does change, which allows a deeper sense of fulfillment, which brings healing and peace. This peace comes by knowing that what we’ve been given, we have been good stewards with.
We have been given our bodies to steward well. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.
